Wayne County 4-H pays homage to volunteers

ORRVILLE, Ohio – 4-H members and volunteers were honored for their work with the Wayne County 4-H program during the annual member recognition banquet at Orrville Christian Church.
Meritorious service. Receiving the 2006 Meritorious Service Award were John Sprunger, Brenda Griffin and Mike and Mindy Werstler.
Sprunger, owner of the Kidron Auction in Kidron, was recognized for his support of the junior fair livestock program.
He not only weighs lambs and the goats prior to the show, but he also supports the junior fair livestock auction as a buyer, provides trucking and a market outlet for the animals.
Griffin is the organizational adviser for Congress 4-H Power and works with the club’s Cloverbud Program, providing educational activities, crafts and organizing field trips for the beginning members.
The Werstlers are actively involved in the 4-H program as advisers and volunteer with the 4-H camp program.
Excellence. The 2006 Excellence in 4-H Award was presented to Kristen Davies and Katherine LeFever.
Davies is a member of Apple Creek Wide Awake 4-H Club and Canaan Critters. Her projects have included market hogs, dairy, goats, cooking and sewing.
She serves on junior fair board, the awareness team and is a member of the food and fashion board.
Davies is the daughter of Stan and Cherie Smith of Wooster, and is a junior at Waynedale High School.
