Following devastating financial losses for fairs across the country this spring and summer, congressmen introduced a bill that would offer $500 million in grants to US fairs in the U.S. House of Representatives July 30.

The Muskingum County Fair Board decided July 13 to cancel the 2020 fair, just under a month after the board announced it was planning on a full fair with modifications.

The state of Ohio is relaxing fair guidelines, following several fair cancellations after Gov. Mike DeWine released the original guidelines for this year May 28. 

It’s not fair season quite yet. For some counties, fair season isn’t going to look the same this year at all. But with concessionaires showing up to events at fairgrounds around the state, people don’t have to wait for fair season to get their fair food.

On May 28, Gov. Mike DeWine released his guidelines for county and independent fairs.  They boil down to this: local fairs should decide for themselves.

As Ohio legislators and fair boards try to figure out solutions, people in the carnival industry and other businesses that rely on the fairs are waiting to see if they’ll be able to salvage their 2020 season.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some fair boards have canceled all or part of their fair for the 2020 season.
