The event kicks off at 7 p.m. with speakers Gene Kinsley and Emma Jean Miller.

Speaker background. Kinsley was born and raised in Hartville, graduating in 1945. He’s served as head basketball coach in the district.

Kinsley will share sports stories from Uniontown and Hartville Schools from the 1920s until the two school districts consolidated in 1958.

Emma Jean Miller, an 11-year-old Amish girl from Hartville, won the National Girl’s Marble Championship in 1949 in Asbury Park, N.J.

Her quiet smile, accurate shooting and Amish dress worn under a contestant’s sweater marked “Canton” all helped make her popular with photographers and spectators as she competed for the championship.

As an adult, Emma now lives in Lake Township.

Displays. Displays will be provided for guests to observe and individuals are encouraged to bring items to share for the evening.

An appraiser will be on hand to appraise marbles.

The meeting is free and open to the public with light refreshments served at intermission.
