HUDSON, Ohio – Labor Day, Sept. 3, marks the 20th annual Western Reserve Academy Antiques Festival in Hudson, Ohio.

This event is sponsored by the Pioneer Women of Reserve, which is comprised of mothers of present and former students, alumnae, and other friends of Western Reserve Academy.

Founded in 1826, Reserve is the ninth oldest boarding school in the United States and features early 19th century architecture.

About the show. Each year, more than 200 volunteers combine forces to present one of the area’s finest antique events, showcasing 120 dealers from across Ohio and nine neighboring states.

Offered for purchase is a wide variety of fine Americana, including period American furniture, Ohio antiques, early toys, wicker, folk art, Oriental rugs, pewter, and early 18 and 19 century items.

The Pioneer Women select a special antique for raffle each year. The prize for 2001 is a Sheraton mahogany Pembroke table, New York, c. 1810. The table has elliptic leaves, a drawer with brass pull, and finely reeded legs. The table in its original condition also includes brass cup casters.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20, and may be bought at the Pioneer Women’s booth throughout the day.

Food available. Over 5,000 browsers and antique hunters attend the festival and ample free parking is provided. Sandwiches, salads, beverages and desserts are available.

Serious aficionados may wish to purchase a Preview Ticket for $20, which allows early shopping from 8:30-10 a.m., all-day admission, preferential parking, and breakfast served on the patio of Ellsworth Hall on campus.

General admission is $8 with children 18 and under admitted free. The festival is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How to get there. The campus is located north of Hudson’s downtown on Route 91 (North Main Street). Those traveling by Ohio Turnpike should take Exit No. 180 (formerly No. 12) to Hudson.
