Oak bookcase draws top bid

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. – The day was cold, but the bidding was hot at the Bernice Smith estate auction Dec. 9.

Auctioneer Robert Baumgartel fielded bids from 73 registered bidders from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

A Stickley oak bookcase drew the highest bid at $4,200. A 1990 Chevy Corsica automobile went for $3,300 and an Eastlake oak table sold for $575.

Other items sold at the auction include an oak china closet ($375), an ice box ($240), a mantle clock ($150), and several quilts ($135).
