WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington County 4-H members are given an opportunity to improve their public speaking skills and demonstration skills at the 2012 4-H County Activity Night that was held June 12.

Over 30 4-H members ages 8 to 18 years old presented demonstrations, impromptu speeches, public speaking and theatrical presentations.

4-H members who received a blue ribbon at the 4-H County Activity Night will go on to 4-H Regional Activities Day June 28 in Westmoreland County.

The winners received cash prizes of $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Plaques were also given to first place winners and the event was sponsored by Ed Schultz Insurance Agency, Nationwide Insurance, Andrew W. Gans, CFP, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC and an anonymous donor.

CANFIELD, Ohio — The Mahoning County 4-H program will hold its annual 4-H Day Camp July 2 at 4-H Camp Whitewood in Windsor, Ohio in Ashtabula County. The day camp is open to any youth between the ages of 5 and 8 (must have completed kindergarten). Youth do not need to be 4-H members to attend.

A chartered bus will transport youth and adult chaperones to the camp. The fee is $30, and includes the bus ride, swimming, crafts, lunch and s’mores.

Day campers will be supervised by trained counselors and permanent camp staff. Registration and full payment is due by June 29. Camp will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Mahoning County 4-H program will hold its annual 4-H Junior Camp July 15-21, also at 4-H Camp Whitewood. The Mahoning County Junior Camp — themed “Every day’s a Holiday at Camp Whitewood” — is open to all youth between the ages of 8 and 14. You do not need to be a 4-H member to attend.

A fee of $250 includes a full week of meals, lodging, program supplies, crafts, instructors and camp T-shirt and photo. Registration and $75 deposit is due by June 29
