Ask FSA Andy about the Milk Margin Protection Program

Hello Again, Friends:

If your house is anything like ours, I am sure you have seen enough leftovers and turkey casseroles until another holiday. My goodness, can the ladies of our family put together a spread of food.

My Mom is famous for her scalloped oysters, a tradition that I need to learn how to fix. Cousin Sheri makes powerful baked beans that tend to be another man-favorite.

As I make you recall your meal, I hope you dairymen reading this have already made your Milk Margin Protection decision. The final date to do this is Dec. 5!

The program provides financial assistance to participating farmers when the margin — the difference between the price of milk and feed costs — fall below the coverage level selected by the farmer.

The MPP program requires you have 2011, 2012, 2013 milk production slips and a check to pay the application fee. If you are going to take a look at the MPP, call your FSA office and give them a heads up your headed their way.

Plan other visits, too

I hope each of you take advantage of the holiday season to visit neighbors, old friends and family. It is funny how you can talk to a neighbor on the phone every day ,but not know their hair has greyed or they now have a health issue. I know I am a softy, but I was raised a farmer’s daughter and I hope my kids remember how they were raised as well.

We enjoyed our Thanksgiving Day, but are very thankful for our friends, family and opportunity to live the life we do.

That’s all for now.
FSA Andy
