COLUMBUS — Ohio State University Extension is inviting all firewood dealers in the state to submit their contact information for inclusion in a comprehensive industry directory aimed at better connecting potential consumers with producers.
Purpose
Online-based and searchable by county, the directory will “support and grow forest-to-market opportunities in this valuable sector of production forestry,” said Eric McConnell, OSU Extension specialist and assistant professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources.
“Dependence on traditional markets and strategies, while necessary and integral to our sector, is unfortunately not enough to guarantee a business’ longevity given these current economic conditions,” McConnell said of the purpose of the directory.
“Public access to dealer contacts in a user-friendly format will only strengthen a market where Ohio enjoys a particular advantage.”
Inclusion
Firewood dealers can join the directory by submitting the company’s name, address, phone number, county and any additional services they may offer, such as tree removal, tree trimming, chipping or grinding, to Mary Slyby at ohiowoods@osu.edu or 614-688-3421; or to McConnell at mcconnell.213@osu.edu, 614-292-9838 or fax to 614-292-7432.
The directory will be available online at Ohio State’s new Forest Products website, www.ohiowoods.osu.edu.
