CARROLLTON, Ohio — Eastern Ohio’s Route 9 Cooperative, the biggest chestnut packing facility in the U.S., will host a free tour Aug. 13 as part of the 2011 Ohio Sustainable Farm Tour and Workshop Series.
Hours are 2-4 p.m. at 4300 German Road SE in Carrollton, about 25 miles southeast of Canton. Admission is free and open to the public. Pre-registration isn’t necessary.
Featured will be the operation’s extensive chestnut orchards and behind-the-scenes details on producing and selling chestnuts. Route 9 may expand, too, into produce auctions, poultry harvest and fruit and vegetable processing.
