Eileen Schilliger with her father Marion

Vintage farm photo, Brunner Farm

Art Smallsreed submitted this photo of Eileen Schilliger with her father, Marion, on their farm in Ashley, Ohio, in the summer of 1943. Eileen is now Arthur’s wife, and their son, Steven, (fifth generation) currently operates the Smallsreed farm with help from his family.

(Submitted by Arden Bryan)Rush and Merle Bryan, and his grandparents’ Ashtabula County farm on Stanhope Kelloggsville Road, near Leon, Ohio, in 1913. His father, Harold Bryan, is one of the youngsters seated in front, on the left, with his younger brother. When his grandfather moved to the farm from Parks Road, Sycamore, he rode in the railroad cattle car with his 10 cows and horses.
Mr. Bryan shares a great story: Seems his father graduated from Dorset High School, but his brother graduated from nearby Andover High School. When Arden asked his father why, his father said his brother didn’t want to ride the horse to Dorset, so he and the neighbor boys walked to Leon, and rode the train to Andover!
(Submitted by Art Smallsreed)This photo, taken in July 1942, shows the first combine on the Smallsreed farm, in Braceville Township, after years of using a custom threshing machine and help from neighbors. Glenn Smallsreed is on the tractor, Glenn’s children Miriam and Arthur (on seat) are on the bagging platform.
In 1963, Glenn and Arthur incorporated the farm business as Glen-Art Farms, Inc.
