According to Insurance News Net, over $9 million is being given to minorities and veterans who are new to the farming trade.

The 2501 Program, also called the Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program, is giving the money to community groups that will help minorities and veterans start and manage farms. Many new farmers are minorities, as reported by the 2012 Agricultural Census.

From Insurance News Net:

“According to the Census, 22 percent of all farmers were beginning farmers in 2012. That means one out of every five farmers operated a farm for fewer than 10 years.”
