Malabar Farm festival features maple syrup

LUCAS, Ohio – Trace the development of maple syrup techniques during Malabar Farm’s 25th annual Maple Syrup Festival March 3-4 and 10-11, from noon to 4 p.m. daily.

This free event includes demonstrations of sugaring techniques from the time of the Native Americans through present day. A self guided tour of the sugar camp and sugar shack will illustrate the evolution of sugaring equipment and how maple sap is transformed into maple syrup.

The Central Ohio Draft Horse Association will provide horse-drawn wagon rides to the sugar camp. Free samples of maple syrup will be available at the sugar camp.

Pure Ohio maple syrup, homemade maple walnut fudge, and other maple products will be on sale during the event, and in the Malabar Farm Gift Shop throughout the season.

Light refreshments, snacks, and entertainment will be provided during the festival in the Pugh Cabin located near the event.

Tour the Big House.

The Big House, the 32-room home of Louis Bromfield, will be open for guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, the Rocky Way and Strait Gate Model Railroad Club of Mansfield will host a show in the Ecology Room of the Big House daily during the festival.

Malabar Farm is located 12 miles southeast of Mansfield, one mile west of state Route 603 on Pleasant Valley Road.
