COLUMBUS – Ohio Gov. Bob Taft announced Aug. 21 that Ashland County will receive $300,000 from the Clean Ohio Fund to purchase nearly 60 acres for a nature preserve.

Proposed and implemented by Governor Taft, the Clean Ohio Fund was approved by the voters in November 2000 to assist local communities in cleaning up and redeveloping brownfield sites, protecting green space, preserving farmland, improving water quality and expanding Ohio’s network of recreational trails and greenways.

Of the $400 million in the fund, $150 million is set aside for conservation projects, $25 million for recreational trails, $25 million for farmland preservation, and $200 million for cleanup of contaminated properties.
