Pie Pastry Recipe
Basic pie crust is the most versatile pastry and can he used for all kinds of applications, mainly tarts and pies. It is usually baked at 400°.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 butter or margarine
- 2-3 tablespoons cold water
Directions
Mix together flour and salt in a bowl, then rub in shortening and butter or margarine until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Sprinkle water evenly over mixture, then cut it in with a round-bladed knife or pastry blender until pastry begins to form large lumps. Press together gently with your fingers until pastry forms a ball. Roll out on a lightly floured surface until smooth, but do not over-handle. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes before use.
