The current recall from Toyota Motor Corporation brings to light an experience we previously had.
Last fall while motoring to the Amish country, we exited off the Route 30 ramp toward Navarre onto Route 21. In doing so, our floor mat slid forward without any notice causing our accelerator to stick.
This rubber floor mat was from a former vehicle which we used on several cars we have driven since then. Little did we know what was causing this horrifying incident of our car going at an excessive speed unable to stop.
The first parking lot happened to be at a Pro Car Auto Group facility where we braced the curb enabling us to shut the car engine off.
Luckily for us, the knowledgeable service manager recalled another motorist who had gone through the same frightful encounter. Needless to say, the rubber floor mat went into our trunk permanently.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of these tragedies due to the unsecured floor mats. Certainly a guardian angel was looking out for us on that day!
