YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Outdoorsmen 4-H club met March 11.

Trooper Greg Dipetro from the State Highway Patrol come to talk to the club about firearm safety and transportation.

The club is collecting canned goods to donate to Victory Lutheran Church.

The club is planning on selling 4-H wristbands for a former 4-H member with serious medical conditions. They are also discussing hosting a date night.

Project books were distributed, and new members shot pistol.

The next meeting is March 18, and it will be a split meeting with the junior team, ages 9-12, shooting from 6-7 p.m. Meeting for all members from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and the senior team, ages 13-18, shooting from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Country Folks and Country Barbwires 4-H clubs met Feb. 28 at the Washington Township Firehouse.

The speaker, Deputy John Von Spiengel, talked about Internet safety.

Also during the meeting, officers were installed, and several members gave demonstrations.

Members are reminded to bring a nonperishable food item for the Alliance Food Pantry to the next meeting, March 28.

LISBON, Ohio — The Outlaws with Attitude had its first meeting of the year Feb. 13. The club had a Valentine’s Day party during the meeting. New officers were elected for the year: Shelby Kelly, president; Hillari Combs, vice president; Christopher Ingledue, secretary; Breann Adkins, treasurer; Candis Booker, reporter; and Montana Virden, safety.

BRISTOLVILLE, Ohio — The Kinsman Kids 4-H club met recently in early March.

Members received their project and heard a report on the Tupperware fundraiser.

Sponsors for goats, chickens, turkeys and rabbits must be submitted by April. Those interested in sponsoring should contact Darlene at 330-772-2132.

There will also be a goat clinic, March 17, at 6 p.m. at the Extension office with guest speaker Dallas Miller.

SALEM, Ohio — Stockmens Livestock 4-H group met Feb. 22.

Officers were elected. They are: Mike Douglas, president; Austin Courtney, vice president; Cody Maris, secretary; Maryssa Barnett, treasurer; Heidi Miller and Cody Learn, recreation officers; Austin Courtney, Claudia Criss, Taylor Holenchick, Sadie Pay and Danny Jordan, Community Service Committee; and Austin Courtney, Kylie Dean, Zachary Dean, Matt Douglas and Tyler Holenchick, Recreation Committee.

New business discussed was the Chinese auction being held at the Quality Assurance meeting. The club donated two peddle tractors and a John Deere basket.

The guest speaker was Mike Courtney discussing dairy and beef feeders. The club discussed vaccinating animals with club money and tabled it until the next meeting.

CANFIELD, Ohio — A 4-H Mahoning County Goat Herders meeting was held Feb. 28 at the O’Brock farm in North Benton. Roll call for the evening was, “If your goat is bred, when is it due or what is your goat’s age?” New business included quality assurance to be held March 5 from 8a.m.-3 p.m. at West Branch High School and sign-ups for the March 13 dog show concession stand.

After discussion, a vote was taken to donate the money made to purchase goats for a third world country. Devotions for the meeting were given by McKayla Boyd, demonstrations by Tyler Bluhm, drink was brought by Alaina Courtwright and food by Rose Biery.

Assignments for the next meeting are: demonstrations, Emily Theil; devotions, McKayla Boyd; and food, Presliegh McDaniel.

Future county meeting dates are May 1 for a handling clinic with more to be scheduled in July. May 23 is Skillathon.

MOUNDSVILLE, W. Va. — The Marshall County 4-H and FFA Goat and Rabbit Club announces its plans for their annual overnighter. The overnighter is scheduled to take place April 8-9 at the Barn on Fourth Street. The club will meet at the Barn at 6 p.m. to check-in and hold their bi-monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m.

After the meeting, the club will have dinner and a bonfire with games and movies and in the morning have breakfast and attend rabbit workshops until lunch. After lunch there will be a mini meeting to vote on the T-shirt theme for 2011 and then the club will attend goat workshops until dismissal.

Workshops will consist of rabbit showmanship and other rabbit-raising topics, goat soap making and various goat-related topics.

Upcoming events for the club are goat weigh-in and goat show, both May 14. Later in the spring, the club will hold a goat showmanship clinic, goat clipping clinic and barn renovations.

Upcoming rabbit events include a mandatory rabbit round-up to be held March 26 at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds and market rabbit breeding to begin April 3. Anyone taking a goat or rabbit project in either 4-H or FFA or interested in doing so, may attend the meeting April 8. MOUNDSVILLE, W. Va. — The 4-H and FFA members of the Dairy Club met March 5 at Young’s Cafeteria in Glendale. The club consists of Marshall and Ohio County 4-H and FFA members taking a dairy project for the year. The members enjoyed a dinner together at Young’s before beginning their business meeting.

New officers are as follows: Tara Chaplin, president; Sara Chaplin, vice-president; Chad Riggle, secretary; Emily Riggle, treasurer; and Audrey Rine, reporter.

Old business discussed included last year’s fair results, treasurer’s report, fair auction report, and trophies and trophy sponsors.

New business included the election of the officers, deciding on the fair T-shirts, plans for the year and any change for the fair and trophies. The club adjourned after deciding on the T-shirt order and planning the next meeting for June.

Sarah Holland, Bristolville; Joshua Kramer, Diamond; Nathanial Kramer, Diamond; Audrey Letson, Cortland; Michael Marshall, Cortland; Amber McMinn, Farmdale; Daniel Montgomery, Newton Falls;

Shannon Montgomery, Newton Falls; Ian Nagay, Windsor; Gabrielle Novak, Ashtabula; Zoe Pierce, Cortland; Nicholas Rolfe-Crawford, Warren; Travis Sapp, Kinsman; Hannah Shay, Newton Falls; Jared Sloan, Bristolville; and Ashley Whipkey, Louisville.

All counselors participate in a minimum of 24 hours of training, in addition to planning many of the activities during camp. Counselors serve as cabin and group leaders during the week and are responsible for 10 to 12 campers.

Program cost. Trumbull County 4-H Camp will be held July 31 to Aug. 6 at Camp Whitewood, located in Windsor, Ohio. Cost for camp this year is $230. This includes three meals a day and a snack prepared in accordance with sound nutritional guidelines, lodging in cabins with bunk beds, restrooms with flush toilets and showers near by and activities and crafts.
