HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Soybean Promotion Board is currently accepting grant applications for projects designed to improve the efficiency and profitability of Pennsylvania’s soybean producers.
Proposals sought
In addition to research projects that deal with production issues, proposals that address two of the board’s priority objectives — positioning Pennsylvania soy in niche markets and preserving Pennsylvania’s agriculture industry — will be considered for funding.
“Soybean research and promotion is essential to Pennsylvania soybean producers,” said Daryl Alger, board chairman. “Success for soybean farmers in today’s market takes more than just a good harvest. Increasing demand for soybeans and supporting our primary domestic end-user, the livestock producer, is an essential part of the equation.”
Deadline
Earlier this year, the board, an all-farmer agency that administers the program, provided more than $50,000 in funding grants for research projects to benefit soybean producers.
Additional funding is now available for new research proposals designed to benefit soybean producers in the state.
The deadline for applications is May 26.
Past projects
Recent projects have included research into on-farm production trials, slug control, use of soy protein in sports drinks, and the optimal processing temperature on soybean meal protein quality for dairy herd performance.
Proposals for research focusing on soybean production, utilization, education/information and marketing will be considered. Specific issues identified as research priorities by the board are listed at www.pasoybean.org, but proposals are not limited to these areas.
