Shooting event to benefit wounded and disabled veterans

There is nothing better than doing something to benefit others and in today’s world, there’s no one more deserving of our attention than those veterans who are now disabled due to war injuries.

There are lots of young men and women who suffer daily due to the loss of mobility, and therefore the permanent loss of activities they once enjoyed. It is important that we all keep them in mind as we continue to go about our everyday lives including our outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, camping and shooting.

Coming July 19 is every trap, skeet, sporting clays, and five-stand shooter’s opportunity to give a degree of mobility back to a wounded vet, who deserves to return to the outdoor sports that he or she once enjoyed.

Day of giving

Beginning with a flag raising ceremony at 8 a.m., the Leetonia Sportsman’s Association, located at 311 East High Street, Leetonia, Ohio, will hold a day of giving that features rounds of trap, sporting clays, and five-stand shooting.

Food will be available all day and the shotgun contests will go until every shooter has completed their rounds. Raffles and other opportunities to contribute will also be held.

The Leetonia Club promises that all proceeds will go toward the purchase of a Trac Fab All Terrain Wheelchair (built in Grove City by veterans) that will be presented to a wounded warrior.

Each of these all-terrain power chairs cost up to $15,000. The club calls this event the Iron Man Clay Bird Shoot, a dynamic and worthwhile fundraiser that has become an annual project for them.

Affordable event. Cost of participation is just $40 for adults and $25 for youth 15 or under and includes all three shooting contests.

Club representatives said they can also use non-shooting volunteer assistance during the day, from scouts and other sportsmen.

The club’s website is leetoniasportsmanclub.com. Go shooting and give back to a veteran this Sunday (July 19).
