WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern-Wayne FFA chapter competed in both urban and rural soils Career Development Events at the county, district and state level this year.

The urban team consisted of Valerie Imhoff, Desiree Smith, Cassidy Brown, Jadeyn Berry, Gabby Ream and Jacoby Gilbert. The rural team consisted of Cole Wharton, Craig Wellert, Dugan McLaughlin, Kirsten Boreman, Kaleb Badger, Haley Caldwell and Kade Tegtmeier.

On Oct. 7 at the county level, the rural team took second and the urban team placed third. Wharton and Imhoff placed first individually in their respective contests.

At the district contest, Oct. 13, the rural team placed first and the urban took second. Wharton took first, Imhoff took fourth and Smith took fifth, individually.

On Oct. 20, the teams competed in the first ever online state Soil Judging contest. The teams experienced a new format of competition, and learned a lot through the experience.

Northwestern-Wayne FFA held its inaugural Feed a Farmer event, Oct. 14, at Centerra and Commodity Blenders, both in West Salem.

The officer team and members served about 60 meals. The chapter wanted to hold this event to thank the local farmers in the area.

WELLINGTON, Ohio — Four members of the Wellington FFA officer team, Derrick Andolsek, Natalie Calfo, Alaina Collins and Taylor Michel, attended the virtual Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference Sept. 30. Students learned how to start, plan and encourage different events and contests within the chapter, as well as how to get people involved in FFA in different ways.

ZANESVILLE, Ohio — The West Muskingum FFA chapter competed in the District 8 forestry contest virtually this year. The team placed second with Cody Harris placing fourth overall, Cheyenne Clippinger and Madalynn Kennedy tying for fifth place and RJ Knox placing eighth.

Also competing in the event from West Muskingum were Kaylei McHenry, Naomi Kobunski, Lainey Suchland, Landon Murrey and Kamarin Foraker.

On Oct. 6, students competed in the state forestry contest, and the team placed ninth.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — Five West Holmes FFA members competed in the state Forestry CDE on Oct. 6. The team placed 25th out of 52 teams. The team consisted of Addison Yates, Jayme Pennell, Wyatt Myers, Dawson Doretich and Dyllan Bender.
