CHARDON, Ohio — Geauga Park District will host a Stream Restoration Presentation and Hike on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road, Novelty, Ohio.
Park Biologist Paul Pira will kickoff the event with an indoor presentation about the project he is spearheading to restore a coldwater stream at the site of the former Wicked Woods Golf Course, now Veterans Legacy Woods. This site was once shaped for recreation but is now being carefully revitalized to support native habitats, improve water quality and bring life back to the stream.
Attendees will learn how degraded waterways can be restored and why coldwater steams are important for wildlife.
Following the presentation, participants will visit this site, located in Veterans Legacy Woods, 14085 Ravenna Road, Newbury Township, Ohio, for a guided hike from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees should expect hilly terrain and a moderate level of physical activity.
No registration is required. The program is held in cooperation with he Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio. Those who attend the presentation do not need to participate in the hike.
