Champion steers picked at Farm Show

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Lexie Matthews, a Washington County local, rose above stiff competition to win the grand champion market steer banner at the 2008 Pennsylvania Farm Show Jan. 6, in Harrisburg.
The 18-year-old daughter of Randy and April Matthews topped a field of nearly 70 steers to secure grand champion honors.
Matthew’s 1,360-pound steer was also named champion crossbred and champion heavyweight. This is her sixth year exhibiting at the Farm Show and her third year showing market steers.
The reserve grand champion steer, weighing in at 1,340 pounds, was shown by 13-year-old Hannah Zundel of New Alexandria, Pa. Her first year exhibiting market steers at the Farm Show, Zundel also captured the reserve champion crossbred and champion light heavyweight titles.
She is the daughter of Matthew and Renee Zundel.
