A lot has changed in agriculture over the years. As the National Science Foundation puts it, engineering has played a vital role in agriculture’s development, from creating more efficient machinery and equipment to making pesticides and modified crops to help farmers produce more crops.

Finding sustainable solutions to feed a rapidly growing population is another engineering endeavor. Dealing with environmental threats like pollution and drought also call for engineers to study how to keep water clean and where to find new water sources.

Overall, the future of agriculture points to finding sustainable, economical and inventive practices that will continue to provide for America’s population.
