Hazard A Guess: Week of May 27, 2004

Hello from Hazard.

Well, Item No. 712 is as we suspected: pieces/parts.

But to the best of readers’ guesses, it’s part of a wheel chair – mostly likely an adjustable foot rest from an antique chair.

Our thanks to Mike DeJong from the Ashtabula County Medical Center; Les Howell, Beach City, Ohio; Orville Ritchie, Columbiana, Ohio; and Bob Montgomery, Lordstown, Ohio.

Because the item was just a part of a larger item, Montgomery also speculated that it might also be a child’s seat for a barber or doctor’s chair, and Wayne Cooper of Fombell, Pa., said they often used seats like this for elevator operators (it could be dropped down out of the way) and for postal workers at their windows.

Thanks also go to Clyde Henning of Paris, Ohio, for submitting the item.

This week’s item comes from Clarence Parsons of Sherrard, W.Va., who photographed the item with a coin to give an idea as to scale.

Do you know what it is?
