CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Three members of the Zane Trace FFA — Ann Shelby, Olivia Pflaumer and Julia Everidge — were selected to compete in the National FFA Agriscience Fair. Shelby was selected in the Food Products and Processing Systems category for her research related to egg preservation without refrigeration.

 

Everidge was selected in the Social Systems category for her study on perceived safety of common food ingredients and Pflaumer was selected in the Animal Systems category for her study of pollen concentration in honey. Olivia Congrove and Mariah Cox were selected as finalists for National FFA Proficiency Awards. Congrove was selected in the Goat Production category for raising her own herd of Boer goats and Cox was selected in the Plant Research category for her studies on raspberries, soybeans and potatoes.

 

Zane Trace FFA was also recognized in the 2016 National Chapter Award Program from the National FFA Organization and will be recognized at the 2016 National FFA Convention, Oct. 19-22 in Indianapolis.

 

Miranda Havens earned a gold rating for her proficiency in animal research and Nathanael Freeman earned a silver rating for his proficiency in integrated research, but neither will advance to the national competition.

ASHLAND, Ohio — Crestview FFA members participated in the Richland County Fair, Aug. 6-13. Clorissa Moore won alpaca high point and her pro showmanship class.

 

Jay Oswalt, Maddy Maust, Justin Bond, and Kadie Myers won first or second place in their weight classes for dairy feeder calves. Oswalt won sixth overall with his dairy feeder.
Kathy Lehman, LaCrisha Sauder, Brynn Witmer, and Molly and Emma Ardis exhibited beef feeder calves. Lehman won reserve champion beef feeder. Chris and Cody Loughman participated in the market goat show and Chris won fourth overall Boer goat.

 

Kathy Lehman won grand and reserve champion beef breeding and pro showmanship.
Abby Motter, Kelcie Chance, and Justin Bond participated in the market hog show. Bond honored the memory of Crestview’s Walker Ramsay by showing Ramsay’s market hog. Breanna Swank and Chris and Cody Loughman participated in the market lamb show. Both Breanna and Chris finished within the top eight overall. Crestview members concluded the fair week at the junior fair livestock auction.
