JEROMESVILLE, Ohio ­— Hillsdale FFA members competed in the Nursery and Landscape CDE Jan. 17, at Lorain County Joint Vocational Center, and placed second as a team, advancing them to state.

Team members included: Alena Arnold, placing second; Blayne Bartter, third; Brady Ashby, Briar Funk, Logan Kessinger, Brock Hoverstock, and Alyssa Crytzer.

During the Midwest Green Industry Xperienice 2017 convention, the team placed 15th overall.

SULLIVAN, Ohio — Two members of the Black River FFA chapter participated in the State Job Interview Career Development Event Dec. 3, in Columbus. Anna Shearer placed 10th in the freshman division and Callee Aviles placed ninth in the junior division.

The chapter also held its annual chili cookoff in which seven members participated. People’s Choice winners were: Anthony Liberty, first place; Anna Shearer, second place; and Callee Aviles, third place.

The chapter visited St. Patrick’s Manor in Wellington, Dec. 22, to sing Christmas Carols and visit with the residents. The chapter also brought Christmas cards, homemade cookies and left boxes of fruit.

Members that attended were: Callee Aviles, Cori Aviles, Eric Cordonnier, Hayley Rickey, Kyler Foster, Russell Schultz, Breanna Clifford, Hannah Abfall, Mya Kunsman, Zoe Kunsman, Jonathan Herb, Anna Shearer, Maddie O’Farrlley, Chloee, Rylee, Peter and Mrs. Howard and Mr. Wolff.

WELLINGTON, Ohio — Lorain County JVS student members of the FFA recently attend the 360° Leadership Conference in Dublin, Ohio.

This conference took the JVS Landscape and Greenhouse Management and Industrial Equipment Mechanics students on a full-circle trip in terms of leadership.

The two-day event focused on the importance of creating a vision plan for their local FFA chapter and how to cover every angle for developing action plans.

Students who attended include: from Amherst, Taylor DeJesus; Kaitlyn Lemaster; Jessica Mileski; Mercedes Murphy; Don Sabella; and Brianna Vullien.
