Blue Ridge Pottery Show starts Oct. 4

ERWIN, Tenn. – The 22nd Blue Ridge Pottery Show will take place this year on Oct. 4-6 at the National Guard Armory at the end of Main Street, Erwin, Tenn.

It is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Pottery Club of Erwin.

The show begins with a Thursday evening preview, Oct. 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Show hours are Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Main Street Erwin closes down Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. for the weekend while vendors set up hundreds of cabana-sized booths. Besides several tables of Blue Ridge dinnerware and pottery, other displays include hand-crafted country crafts and apple products.

Unofficial shopping. The hours during the festival out on the street are from 8 a.m. to dusk. however, one of the best kept secrets is that nocturnal shoppers come with flashlights and shop the booths during set up from 7 p.m. until midnight and are back again by 5 a.m. This shopping time is “unofficial” but no one has ever been heard to complain as sales are busy and brisk.

Story telling. Just over the hill a bit is the quaint historic town of Jonesborough, Tenn. it is the home of the annual story telling festival. Professional story tellers and tourists alike come from all points of the globe to participate in this great festival.
