Pa. governor gets into dairy reform act

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pa. Gov. Edward G. Rendell is pushing for dairy reform on the federal level, with a goal of stabilizing milk prices and increasing farm profits.
Federal policy reform is needed, he said, to grow the dairy industry in the commonwealth.
“These policy recommendations will greatly improve the business climate for our dairy producers, whose industry makes up nearly half of the agricultural sector in Pennsylvania,” Rendell said. “This is a $4.2 billion industry that has tremendous growth potential.
At the top of his 11 recommendations is a restructuring of the federal order system. He is also recommending developing an insurance and grant program and establishing a forward contracting program.
