GEAUGA COUNTY

Rain barrel campaign. Through this community initiative, local artists transform 55-gallon recycled plastic barrels into repurposed rain barrels. Seven artists have each painted a barrel that reflects Geauga County’s natural, cultural, agricultural or historical resources.

These decorated rain barrels will be displayed at the Geauga SWCD office and the district’s annual meeting and are available for bidding at these locations or on the website, geaugaswcd.com, until Oct. 30. Minimum bids start at $90 but be sure to check the current bid amount of each barrel prior to submitting a bid.

All proceeds will go toward the district’s education programs. For more information, visit geaugaswcd.com or call 440-834-1122.

PORTAGE COUNTY

Damselflies and dragonflies. The OSU Extension and the Portage County Master Gardeners will present a webinar Sept. 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. that looks at damselflies and dragons. This educational webinar — which is free and open to the public — will be hosted by Judy Semroc, conservation specialist with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

She will share pictures and expert advice on what plants you can add to your landscape to attract these jewel-winged beauties to your own yard. Registration required at go.osu.edu/portagedragonflies.

(To add a nonprofit event to our gardening listing, send details at least three weeks in advance to: Gardening News, Farm and Dairy, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or email: editorial@farmanddairy.com.)
