Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. dry pasta
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1½ lbs. lean ground beef
- ½ cup pepperoni, chopped
- 2 tsp. oregano
- ½ tsp. red chilli flakes
- 1 tsp. dry basil
- ½ tsp. black pepper
- 1 large jar marinara or spaghetti sauce
- 1½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions:
- Cook pasta to al dente according to package directions. Drain, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.
- Preheat oven to 400 F. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sauté onions in oil until soft.
- Add garlic and continue to cook for another 30 seconds. Add ground beef and pepperoni, cook breaking it apart until beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Pour the meat mixture into a 13-by-9-inch baking dish and pour marinara sauce over the top. Pour pasta water in the sauce jar, secure lid, shake and then pour the contents over the beef.
- Season mixture with oregano, basil, black pepper. Mix in cooked pasta and level, top with shredded mozzarella.
- Bake for 20 minutes until cheese melts.
