COLUMBUS — The Ohio Farm Bureau is offering Ohio teachers an in-depth opportunity this summer to explore agriculture while equipping them with educational resources to use in the classroom.

Workshop

“Land and Living: A Workshop for Teachers,” is a two-session field trip that will give teachers insight on how farming technology has changed, different techniques used to protect the environment, food and agriculture programs offered at Ohio State University and misconceptions regarding food production.

Teachers will take away resources to supplement their experience on the tours that are adaptable to most grade levels, and help meet academic content standards in social studies, environmental science and other content areas.

Sessions

Teachers may choose to participate in one or both of the following sessions:

— Session I, July 28 and 29: A chartered motor coach bus will transport participants from Glacier Ridge Metro Park in Union County to several farms, returning to the park at 3:30 p.m. Overnight accommodations will be arranged.

Registration is $150 and includes hotel, transportation, meals and classroom materials.

— Session II, Aug. 7 and 8: A one-day visit to Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and a one-day visit to the Ohio State Fair.

Registration is $50 and includes lunches and classroom materials. Optional graduate credits for participation in each session may be earned from Ashland University at an additional price of $163.
