The 14th Annual Picket Fence Art Show, sponsored by the Richfield Historical Society and the Richfield-Hinckley Art Group, will be held, rain or shine, on Saturday, August 1 from 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 2 from 12 p.m. — 4 p.m.

The Farnam Manor (located at 4223 Brecksville Road, Richfield 44286) will once again host this prestigious art event, which originated in the 50’s with Kitte Kirk Lyons. Her parents, Theo and Ane Marie Kirk, hosted a weekly art group at their home and restaurant, then known as the Danish Smorgasbord. The Art Group organized the original outdoor art show, known as “The Picket Fence Art Show” where framed art work hung on a snow fence, back in the mid-1950s and 1960s. Sadly, Kitte passed away last year. A retrospective of her work will be featured in her honor at this year’s show.

In 2002 the Historical Society rounded up Richfield artists for an art show in anticipation of the 2003 Ohio Bicentennial. Named the Screen Door Art Show, it was held at the Richfield Fellowship Hall from 2002-2006. In 2007, the Farnam Foundation, under the direction of Kathy and Tim Magnar, once again opened the Manor doors and graciously allowed the Society an opportunity to return the show to its roots and revert to its original name. The event remains free to the public. A Richfield connection, past or present, is necessary to participate as an artist in the Picket Fence Art Show. Original framed art, ceramics, photography, jewelry and fine crafts will be offered for sale at the event.

A special July 31 Patrons’ Night — scheduled from 4 p.m. — 7 p.m. and offering beverages, appetizers and desserts as well as live music — will allow art lovers a special preview of the show as well as a unique opportunity to meet some of the artists. Cost is $7 per person. While not required, reservations are strongly encouraged. To make your reservation, call 330-659-0336 or 330-659-4750. Payment, check to “Richfield Historical Society”, should be sent to Richfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 215, Richfield 44286.
