On August 22, 2017 at 7pm the Salem Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet in the library’s Quaker Room to discuss the book “Before the Fall” by Noah Hawley.

The book is a contemporary thriller about eleven people who are traveling on a private plane departing from Martha’s Vineyard headed for New York. Sixteen minutes into the flight, the plane disappears into the ocean. The only survivors are Scott Burroughs, a last-minute addition to the flight and a four-year-old boy. The plot revolves around Scott’s attempts to recall the events leading up to the crash and to deal with the aftermath of the tragedy. The backstories of the passengers and crew members are crucial – including a Wall Street titan and his wife, a Texas party boy just in from London, a young woman questioning her life choices, and a career pilot. As the passenger’s intrigues unravel, odd coincidences point to a conspiracy. Was it merely per chance that so many influential people were on the plane or was there something far darker at work? An addition to the story is Gus Franklin. He handles transportation disasters for the federal government. When the bulk of the wreckage is found Gus discovers that there are bullet holes in the cockpit door and the dead pilot is on the wrong side of the cockpit. The story escalates and unfolds as the reader is drawn closer to the mysterious finale.

Copies of this intriguing book may be borrowed from the library which is located at 821 E. State St., Salem, OH. No registration is required to participate in the discussion that is open to the public and free of cost to attend.
