Join in the fun and “Plant a Pizza Pot” at Waterworth Memorial Park, pavilion 9 on May 6, 2017 at 2pm as Salem Parks and Recreation and Salem Public Library host this popular, family-friendly event. What is a “Pizza Pot”? It is a large planter that is filled with good soil and a variety of plants (tomato, green pepper, oregano and basil, for example) that produce ingredients that can be used on homemade pizzas.All materials will be provided for this program that is free of cost and open to the public. Guidance with planting and plant care will be provided by Horticulturalist Ellen Speicher.

Ms. Speicher graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Biology; Ellen Speicher worked at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, PA, as Director of Horticulture before coming to Mill Creek MetroParks in 2004. She served as the Assistant Horticulture Director at Fellows Riverside Gardens from 2004 – 2014. She now teaches classes in horticulture and gives programs on many gardening topics to garden clubs, Master Gardeners & civic and community groups.
