This two-day event will focus on making hay with horses. Day one is a hands-on mowing workshop that runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This workshop will be limited to six people, and participants will learn how to run horse-drawn mowers. Basic teamster skills are required.
Day two is a haymaking demonstration from 10 a.m – 3 p.m. We will demonstrate tools used in the production of high-quality hay made with draft animal power, focusing on second cutting hay made from grazing land. Facilitators: Donn Hewes and Emily Landeck. Northland Sheep Dairy is a 100% grass-fed seasonal sheep dairy powered by draft horses and mules and some committed hardworking farmers in Marathon, NY. Camping available Friday and Saturday night, please bring your own food for event.
