Are you aware that falls are found to be the number one cause of admission to all hospitals, especially trauma centers, in the United States? The injuries the elderly sustain as a result of falling are life changing and, at times, life ending. Mercy St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital has identified fall prevention as their primary injury prevention imperative. The need to modify the number and severity of falls is paramount in the hospital’s quest to improve the lives of the communities they serve. Helping seniors live more productive, energetic and safe lives is the hospital’s goal in speaking about falls prevention. This program contains data on falls, the injuries commonly seen with falls, and the impact on the victims of these personal disasters. The discussion will include strategies for reducing falls. The “Fall Prevention” program will be presented on April 13, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Quaker Room at Salem Public Library by M. Ben Melnykovich, RN, Trauma Outreach/Injury Prevention Coordinator at Mercy St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center.

Registration is required online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or by calling 330-332-0042 for assistance and/or more information. This program is open to the general public and free of cost to attend.
