Agencies sponsor LEAP training in Salem, Jan. 17

LISBON, Ohio – The Columbiana County Soil and Water Conservation District and Extension invite livestock producers to attend an Ohio Livestock Environmental Assurance Program (LEAP) training meeting.

Is it for me? The meeting is designed for producers who won, operate or manage a pasture- or grazing-based livestock farm.

The meeting is Jan. 17 at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway in Salem.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. There is a $10 registration fee, which includes lunch.

LEAP is a confidential and voluntary program. The program’s curriculum and educational materials are designed specifically for beef and dairy cattle, sheep and horses.

Of special interest. Curriculum includes an introduction to sound environmental practices; stewardship, grazing systems and siting of winter feeding areas;

Grazing and nutrient management with pasture assessments; managing the rural interface; creating an environmental plan; plus information on state and local regulations and cost-share programs.
