Dinner to celebrate General Custer’s birthday

JEWETT, Ohio – Revisit history at the General George Armstrong Custer birthday dinner Dec. 1 at the Kammeyer Opera House in Jewett, Ohio.

Steve Alexander of Monroe, Mich., will again attend the event. Alexander is a living historian who portrays Custer and relates interesting stories about the General.

Guest speaker. The Custer Memorial Association will welcome John Mattox as the main speaker at the Custer Dinner. Mattox is the curator of the Underground Railroad Museum located at 206 High St. Flushing, Ohio. He is responsible for the collection of memorabilia at the museum, a non-profit community organization.

Mattox will relate what is known about slavery and the Underground Railroad in Ohio and the understanding of the culture in the 1800s.

Plenty to see. Civil War displays, an auction, door prizes, musical selections, unveiling of the Custer Sign and much more will take place.

A chicken/ham dinner with all the trimmings and a homemade Custer birthday cake will be served at 6:30 p.m. The price of the dinner ticket is $15 per person; for a child 11 and under the price is $10.
