THOMPSON, Ohio — Thompson Ledge Dairymen participated in the Great Geauga County Fair over Labor Day Weekend. The club has grown to 21 members who showed 35 dairy cows.

Audrey Buterbaugh placed first in novice showmanship and Dairy Bud Matthew Burton participated in his first fair.

Jake Lausin won grand champion Holstein and supreme champion of all breeds for the second consecutive year, and he won showman of showmen.

He also participated in the showmanship sweepstakes and placed third out of 10.

Brie Carr won both junior and senior grand champion Guernsey and junior grand champion Jersey.

The senior grand champion Jersey was shown by Ross McKinstry.

Club members were successful out of the show ring also. Brittany Carr was crowned Geauga County dairy princess and Matt Bruening was a member of the junior fair king’s court.

Brittany Carr, Jake Lausin and Emma Niehus were awarded Ronnie Rennolds Memorial Scholarships before the livestock sale.

The club auctioned their “Got Milk? Say Cheese!” dairy basket, which was purchased by Attorney Robin Stanley of Petersen and Ibold, Chardon.

The club met for business meetings Aug. 23 and Sept. 20 and a family picnic was held Sept. 27 at the Montville Community Center.

Thank you notes were sent to those who supported the club throughout the year.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 18 at the Lausin’s house, where a hayride is planned, weather permitting.

MONACA, Pa. — The Big Knob 4-H Livestock Club will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Big Knob Grange Hall basement.

Youth who are between 8 to 18 by Jan. 1, 2010, are eligible to sign up for market livestock and breeding projects.

Members will be voting on the possibility of adding market goats to the club project listing for 2010.

MONACA, Pa. — The Beaver County 4-H Stockman’s Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Hookstown Grange Hall basement.

ELLSWORTH, Ohio — October’s meeting of the Judge’s Choice’s 4-H club was the one-year anniversary of the club’s existence.

Head adviser and trainer, Anthony Cope, guided members in how to teach their horses and themselves to become a working team.

The continuation of free instruction and training offered to improve the member’s horsemanship skills throughout the coming year was discussed and accepted by all advisers and members.

December’s meeting will honor the members, as well as the Cloverbuds, with awards for contributing throughout the year.

Opportunities for excellence were further provided at the Canfield Fair where club members participated.

Marissa Sternburg won grand champion in barrels 16-18. Also, Monica Reynolds won reserve champion in barrels 12 and under, and Kayleigh Upole won reserve champion in walk trot equitation.

The Judge’s Choice is now accepting new members to begin working with their next 4-H project. Riding meets will again be scheduled at Buckeye Horse Park twice a month from May through Sept. at no cost to the members.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Ellsworth Administration Building.
