Ohio, Pa. youth score big at dairy show

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania students shone during the 39th annual Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest held at the All-American Dairy Show Sept. 17.
Nearly 150 individual youth in 37 teams competed in the 4-H, FFA and collegiate contests, which included dairy cattle judging, oral reasons and linear evaluations.
Competing against 18 other collegiate teams, the University of Wisconsin – River Falls won the collegiate contest.
Ohio State University won fourth.
High individuals of the collegiate contest included Annie Specht, Ohio State University, third.
4-H division. The Ohio team was the victor in the 4-H division. Team members included Elizabeth Grim, Jason Miley, Curtis Bickel and Laura Gordon.
Competing against 11 other teams, Ohio won the Guernsey breed and team member Jason Miley placed first in oral reasons.
With a total score of 633, Laura Gordon, also of Ohio, was named top individual of the contest.
Placing first in oral reasons and in the Jersey breed, the Pennsylvania team won the FFA division of the judging contest.
Ethan and Hannah Wentworth, Joan Harnish and Rachel Spring were led to victory by coach Brian Zug.
In the individual contest, Ethan Wentworth of Pennsylvania placed first. He also won the Jersey breed and was second in oral reasons.
