OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Joseph Mast of Millersburg, Ohio, was first runner-up for the second year in a row at the International Auctioneer Championship held July 17.

The competition was part of the 60th International Auctioneers Conference and Show July 13-18 at the Overland Park Convention Center in Kansas.

This is Mast’s third year competing, and he placed in the top 15 his first year.

Background

Mast grew up on a dairy farm and, after attending Goshen College, he decided to pursue the auction business. He has been auctioneering since 2001 and has been licensed as a real estate auctioneer since 2004.

He auctioneers nationwide and is licensed in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas.

He sells at five auto auctions per week, including Akron Auto Auction, Manheim Metro Detroit Auto Auction, Flint Auto Auction, I-94 Auto Auction and Perryopolis Auto Auction.

He is co-owner of Real Estate Showcase Auction Co., which has offices in Wooster, Millersburg, Ashland, Loudonville and Mount Vernon.

Competitor

In addition to the international competition, Mast was the champion of the 2005 Ohio State Auctioneer Bid Calling competition and a finalist in the 2008 World Automobile Auctioneer contest.

Mast said he enjoys competing because of the people he meets at auctioneer conferences and contest. However, he enjoys auctioneering because of his clients.

“I enjoy helping buyers find sellers and sellers find buyers,” he said. “It’s all worth it at the end of the day to have a client who is satisfied.”
