Results are in from Pa. Beef Exposition

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – A weekend of cattle sales, youth competitions, cattle shows and tradeshows came to a satisfying end for many of Pennsylvania’s cattle enthusiasts. It was especially gratifying for the event champions at the Pennsylvania Beef Exposition.
Many of the events included in the exposition took place at Penn State University’s Ag Arena March 30 through April 2. Some of the events in which champions were named were the beef quiz bowl, beef skillathon, junior heifer show, showmanship finals and junior steer show.
Beef quiz bowl. The beef quiz bowl featured youth ages 8-21 competing on teams to answer questions on a variety of topics. These topics included quality assurance, nutrition, feeds, and cattle management.
York County earned first place in the junior and senior teams division in the quiz bowl.
Skillathon. The beef skillathon was also a competition for youth ages 8-21. It consisted of written questions on meat cuts, feed stuffs and forages, equipment used for cattle handling, quality health and assurance and cattle management.
Placings are as follows:
Senior team: Adams County Junior Beef Producers, first place; Adams County Junior Beef Producers, second place; and Steuben County, third place.
Intermediate team: York County, first place; Carroll County, second place; and Steuben County, third place.
Junior team: Berks County Junior, first place; and York Junior, second place.
Senior individual: Clayton Phelps, first place; Andrew Schubmehl, second place; Melanie Wenger, second place; and Nathan Stump, third place.
Intermediate individual: Claire Bennett, first place; Morgan Livingston, second place; and Daniel Reynolds, third place.
Junior individual: Ian Stewart, first place; Bradley Wanner, first place; Garrett Livingston, second place; and Tori Dietrick, third place.
Heifers. The junior heifer show took place April 1. Grand champion overall went to Katrina Frey, 16, of Lancaster County. Reserve grand champion overall went to A.J. O-Boyle, 12, of Perry County.
Showmanship. The showmanship finals took place April 2.
Placings are as follows:
Champion senior showman, Lacey Murray, 18, of Somerset County. Reserve champion senior showman, Mathew Black, 20, of Lebanon County.
Champion intermediate showman, Kelsey Delaplaine, 14, of Adams County. Reserve champion intermediate showman, Frey.
Champion junior showman, Shane Duhamel, 10, of New Haven County, Connecticut. Reserve champion junior showman, Kyle Bower, 10, of Dauphin County.
Steers. The steer show also took place April 2.
Grand champion overall went to Charles Krietz, 21, of Frederick County, Maryland. Reserve grand champion went to Danielle Hamilton, 17, of Frederick County, Maryland.
