A roundup of FFA news for the week of October 9, 2014

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA Agronomy team won a spot to go and compete at the Big E on Sept. 13 in Minnesota.

The team that won second place at state included Laura Yeater, Bryce Payne, Amanda Garn and Megan Poynter.

Payne placed first and was judged on the knowledge of different types of plants, seeds and insects.

They also compete in a team activity where they have to figure out a problem from a disease in someone’s plants and a way to fix it.

In the competition at the Big E, the team consisted of Megan Poynter, Amanda Garn, Caitlyn Smith, and Logan Garber. At the Big E, the team won first individual in the state. The team won overall.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — The West Holmes FFA Chapter held its annual meeting at Acres of Fun Sept. 22.

The business meeting included the motions to purchase t-shirts and sweatshirts as recommended by the earnings and savings committee, to hold the October meeting at the Holmes County fairgrounds, to hold the annual fruit sale fundraiser, to pay for registration, hotel, and bus fees for National Convention, to pay hotel fees for forestry participants and to pay $1,600 for meals and tours for the national convention.

The members also  played games, ate pizza, and enjoyed Acres of Fun.
