Shorthorn fall sale lots average a grand

DOVER, Ohio – The Eastern Ohio Shorthorn Association held its fall sale Oct. 21 at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover, Ohio.
Females. The top-selling female was SF Kaboom Macy, an April 2007, roan calf. She was consigned by Rob Smith and Family, Millersburg, Ohio. She sold for $2,500 to the Bill Bates family, of Chandlersville, Ohio.
The second top-selling female was BWF 14K Beverly 06, a June 2006, bred female. This female was consigned by Backwoods Farm, Jeff and Melinda Ulry, Johnstown, Ohio. This heifer due to calve in April 2008, was purchased for $2,300 by Eastern Sky Farm, Malinda Wells, Hillsboro, Ohio.
The Brautigam family, JAMS Shorthorns, Sidney, Ohio, sold JAMS Lacy’s Jo Jo II, an October 2006, female for $1,850. She was purchased by Thomas Dyer, Wooster, Ohio.
Bryson Waller, Flushing, Ohio, selected Harrah Daisy 1S, an April 28, 2006, bred female. He purchased his heifer for $1,800. The Harrah Family Shorthorns, Ginny Harrah, Cadiz, Ohio, was the consignor.
The top-selling Shorthorn plus female was Snow White, a 3/4-blood February 2007, calf. She was consigned by Greg Gotschall, Cambridge, Ohio. She was purchased by David Dreher, Coshocton, Ohio, for $1,750.
Steers. Topping the steer sale at $1,700 was RS Rocky, a 1/2-blood Shorthorn steer. This April 2007, calf was consigned by Rutter’s Shorthorns, Doug Rutter, Cadiz, Ohio. Kirsten Wise, Atwater, Ohio, was the purchaser.
Swallow Farms, Amy Swallow, Beallsville, Ohio, sold Swal Mr Fine, a purebred steer for $1,550. Thomas Dyer, Wooster, Ohio, bought this March 2007 calf.
MS Hollywood, a purebred steer, sold for $1,500. This April 2007, calf was consigned by McLaughlin Shorthorns, Ed and Mary McLaughlin, Woodsfield, Ohio. Kacia Foltz, Cardington, Ohio, was the purchaser.
Averages. There were 15 steers that sold for an average of $943. Thirty purebred heifers sold for an average of $1,073. There were nine Shorthorn plus females that sold for an average of $917. The overall average for the 54 lots was $1,011.
Volume buyers with four head each were the Raymond Frame family, Lore City, Ohio; and Fair-all Farms, Garry and Kathy Wolford, Frazeysburg, Ohio.
Todd Woodruff, Urbana, Ohio, was the auctioneer and Joe Litt was the sale manager.
