TWINSBURG, Ohio — Donald Fred Bissell, 90, of Twinsburg, died September 11, 2014.

He was born April 11, 1924, to Fred and Ina (Walton) Bissell, and was married to Lea (Richner) Bissell for 64 years.

Mr. Bissell was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army across the European and Pacific fronts. He was awarded service honors that included a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Good Conduct Medal.

In addition to being a lifelong farmer, he owned Bissell Excavating with his son, Richard, and managed several rental properties.

He was a charter member of the Northeast Ohio Two Cylinder Club; served as a bank director of the Twinsburg Banking Company, city councilman, Rotary Club member, and was a 75-year member of the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg.

He is survived by his children Bonnie Williams, Richard Bissell, Marti McHugh-Curtis, and Fred Bissell; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Bissell, and sister, Marjorie Richner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg Memorial Fund, VFW Post 4929 of Twinsburg, or Honor Flight Cleveland (1900 Alvin Ave., Cleveland, OH 44109).

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 9819 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, Ohio. A memorial service will be held Sept. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Twinsburg, 9050 Church Street, Twinsburg, Ohio.
