Northeast Natural Gas recently announced it will seek a responsibly sourced natural gas certification, joining Chesapeake and EQT as the third producer to do so in the Marcellus Shale fields.

Pressure is mounting on oil and gas companies to show that they’re environmentally and socially conscious. Some Marcellus Shale drillers are stepping up by putting continuous monitoring equipment on well pads and going through a rigorous certification process to prove their natural gas is "responsibly sourced."

Ohio's horizontal well natural gas production from the first quarter of 2019 was down 8.8% from the final quarter of 2018, but showed a 14.57% increase over the first quarter of 2018.

Ohio’s horizontal shale wells produced 38 percent more natural gas in the fourth quarter of 2017 than the same period in 2016.

In Ohio, 1,760 horizontal shale wells reported oil and natural gas production during the third quarter.

As of November 2017, more than 1,800 wells have been drilled in the Utica-Point Pleasant, and more than 11,300 wells have been drilled in the Marcellus shale.

Pennsylvania and Ohio had the two largest annual natural gas production increases from 2015 to 2016, reflecting higher production from the Utica and Marcellus shale plays.

During the third quarter of 2016, Ohio’s horizontal shale wells produced 45 percent more natural gas than in the same period in 2015.
