Hazard A Guess: Week of March 15, 2001

by Farm and Dairy Staff

Hello from Hazard.

Ah, beware the Ides of March, said the Bard. But you have nothing to fear, March 15 is just another Thursday. It’s also the midpoint of the month, so maybe the lion weather is giving way to the lambs.

We must admit defeat on Item No. 615. We received only one half-hearted guess that it was a child’s bobsled, minus the runners, which it might be, but no one can confirm or refute the suggestion. So, Wayne Cooper, who sent it in, will have to continue his search. If he ever finds out, perhaps he will share the answer with Hazard readers.

This week’s item comes from Charles Whitney, a.k.a. The Barn Consultant. It should come as no surprise that he found it in an old barn! It’s homemade, Whitney says, and the reel at the bottom of the photograph is broken. Any ideas what this contraption was used for?
