Think About It: You can make a difference

It is always a real source of encouragement to be around a person who makes a positive difference in your life. These kinds of people have a special way of making your day better and brighter.

One of the easiest ways I know to destroy a relationship with another person is to dwell on the negative side of life. Most of us would agree we hear and see enough of it in this day and time. I realize there is a negative side of life just as there is a positive side however, it does not do any good to dwell on it.

I like the words of Helen Keller and I quote, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows.” I have noticed time after time that too much negative when shared with others can have an effect on our harmony with one another.

Abraham said to Lot: “Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, for we are brethren” Gen. 13:8. If we will do our best and be obedient to God’s Word we can make a difference in the lives of others. “As much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” Romans 12:18.

When you can make a difference in another person’s life it not only encourages them but it also encourages you.

“You can’t hold a man down without staying down with him” — Booker T. Washington.

My wife Myrna and I were in our local post office today. My wife needed some added change to help with the cost of our mailing so I held my hand out and she took the change that she needed.

The postmaster jokingly commented on her taking my change. I told him she has been doing that for the last 52 years of our marriage. He said to me, “You must really like her.” I replied saying, “I don’t like her, I love her.” He said that we had made his day.

A friendly smile, a kind word and other acts and thoughts of kindness can make a difference. Maybe it is the only one that person will receive today.

“The Lord bless thee and keep thee: The Lord maketh his face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” Numbers 6:24- 26.
