Members of the Northwestern FFA gathered at the Eberly Farm for a meeting and movie night Oct. 18.

Several of the chapter’s committees reported, including ag in the classroom, public relations, safety leadership and the supervised agricultural experience projects.

Katie Stull reported this year, 25 members traveled to Jim Borton’s farm to pick grapes.

Shannon Garrison reported on officer training at the Trumbull County Career Center and on the Greenhand Conference.

Chapter members donated supplies and helped pack boxes for Northwestern Alumni members serving in the military.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Crestview FFA urban and rural soil judging teams both made it out of county soils contests, and competed at district soils, which was on Sept. 30, and moved on to state soils Oct. 11 in Licking County.

The state rural team consisted of Sam Oswalt, Sarah Stuart, Kenzie Workman, and Kathy Lehman; the state urban team consisted of Jobe Gray, Jenna Purvis, Jacob Landis, and Kelcie Chance.

The top soil judgers, at the state level, for rural soils was Sam Oswalt. For urban, Landis had the highest score for the team.

ANDOVER — The Pymatuning Valley FFA started its annual fresh fruit sale and will be selling until Nov. 7.

The chapter is selling a variety of fruit including navel oranges, tangelos, juice oranges, red grapefruit, sunburst tangerines, red delicious apples, and various variety packs.

MILLERSBURG — The West Holmes FFA Chapter sent 14 members to FFA Camp Muskingum Sept. 28.

Members attending camp were Jordan Jenkins, Moses Schlabach, Jaeden Roloff, Brody Beckett, Cade Patterson, Hailee Carter, Whitney Miller, Remington Green, Tyler Lyons, Thane Kaufman, Sarah Sprang, Alyx Morris, Regina Miller, and Juanita Miller.

The chapter also sent five members to the state forestry competition at Hocking College Oct. 4.

The team placed 27th out of 41 teams. In individual competition, Wyatt Mellor placed 66th out of 258 competitors.

The team also visited Hocking College for a tour of the campus.

SMITHVILLE, Ohio — Greenhand FFA members Leah Gochnauer and Kiersten Sugg from the Smithville FFA attended a leadership conference Oct. 4 at Northwestern High School.

The students got to meet other local greenhand FFA members and interact with state FFA officers and past FFA members.

The conference taught new FFA members about Career Development Events, Supervised Agricultural Experience projects, official dress, and chapter activities. The members also were able to talk with the ATI college chapter, and play team building and leadership games.

The Smithville FFA chapter competed in the soil judging career development event Sept. 25. Members of the urban soils team were Wyatt Baer, Frank Becker, Emily Horst, Wren Hostetler, Katie Hostetler, and Mattie Leway.

Baer and Wren Hostetler both placed in the top 10.

Members of the rural soils team were Skylar Brookover, Gavin Brummage, Milagro Cantera, Kerri Holmes, Justin Luginbuhl, John Kelbly, Colten Martell, Grace Rhoads, Shawn Montovani, Tristan Stoll, Jesse Stoller, Jacob Studer, Michael Thompson, and Chris Tomic.

Rhoads, Tomic, and Studer placed in the top 10.

The teams also competed at the district contest Oct. 3. The urban soils team of Milagro Cantera, John Kelbly, Jacob Studer, and Chris Tomic placed fifth and qualified for the state competition.

The rural team of Wyatt Baer, Frank Becker, and Wren Hostetler placed second and qualified for the state competition. All three placed in the top 10.
