BURTON, Ohio — The Maple Producers of Northeast Ohio will host a hands-on workshop “Making the Grade: A Guide to Making Quality Maple Syrup” on April 11 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Patterson Center inside the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14373 N Cheshire St., Burton.
The workshop will feature information on color grading — from delicate to very dark — and how to test for density (brix) and clarity. Attendees should bring a half-pint or more of their own maple syrup to be tested for any issues or off flavors. The event will also include a guided tasting to help participants identify different flavor profiles and learn how to recognize off flavors.
The workshops is for both hobbyist and seasoned producers looking to improve their maple syrup skills or product. Pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, visit www.mpneoh.com/upcoming-events.
