Dairy expo offered judging contest

COLUMBUS – The Spring Dairy Expo, April 4-6, included the Ohio Judging Conference sponsored by the Ohio Purebred Dairy Cattle Association.

Eric Topp of Wapakoneta, Ohio, was the winning judge, topping a field of 42. Cash prizes for the top judges were sponsored by John and Bonnie Ayars, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.

Judging contest. The All-Youth 4-H and Open FFA Judging Contest drew 117 youth in 28 teams registered in the senior division, plus 103 individuals, and 24 teams were registered in the junior category.

The first place senior team was the Pendelton, S.C., FFA team of Allison Waggoner, Emily Waggoner, Laura Stipe, Jessica Landruth and coach Kitty Waggoner. The first place individual was Allison Waggoner.

The team from Wayne County, Ohio, topped the junior contest. Team members included Jason Miley, Matt Weiman, Chris Raber, Hayden Gress and coach Sherry Krebs. The high junior individual was Matt Weiman.

Showmanship. Another popular youth event was the youth showmanship contest on Friday. The beginner showmanship class had 30 participants. Keri Bickel of New Vienna, Ohio, was selected as winner.

In the intermediate division, Neil Duncan of Warsaw, Ohio, topped his class of 30 exhibitors, and Susan Richardson of Fawn Grove, Pa., won the senior showmanship class.The Spring Dairy Expo’s All-Youth 4-H and Open FFA Judging Contest drew 117 youth in 28 teams.
